The decision to move to Calgary has, certainly, been a difficult one. After all, picking up a family and a business and leaving such a beautiful place, family, and friends is no small matter! However, I’m convinced that it is the right decision, both for my family, and for Te Amo Photography.

Rather than simply closing operations in Vancouver, Te Amo Photography will be expanding services into Calgary. The proximity of the two cities allows serving both cities to be a realistic and viable option, plus it has the added benefit of allowing me to visit more often than I normally would!

Whoa. We’re not in Canucks territory anymore!

This weekend, several local Vancouver photographers decided to change that and exchange photographs of each other! It was threatening to rain and the strong gusts of wind howled through the narrow corridors of Granville Island. Just the kind of weather Vancouver photographers thrive in! Well, not really, but we weren’t gonna let that stop us!

We had a blast taking turns shooting and posing each other. I loved seeing the different approaches others took and seeing the results. I went home literally sitting by my phone waiting for an email to come saying that my photos are ready — I now totally know how my clients feel!

And, for my part, I couldn’t wait to get to my photos and work on them!

Arnold, from Creative Captive Photography. Our meeting was very brief because we got split up too early. Next time, buddy!

Sara, from SCM Photography. Sara mentioned a few times that she’s probably the biggest whiner when it comes to the cold, but I think she was just trying to make me feel better, because I’m pretty sure I did a lot of complaining about the weather myself!

Stefanie, from Stefanie DeBest Photography. She has the bluest eyes I have ever seen — I had to ask her if she was wearing contacts. Really, they’re that blue. She’s also getting married this summer — Congrats, Stefanie! She also has the unique opportunity to shoot her wedding photographer, Kristina!

Kristina, from Kristina Belkina Photography. She’s Stefanie’s wedding photographer! And… she shot film for this entire session! How awesome is that? See that camera she’s holding? It wasn’t just for show!  That little box has our photos in it!

Although you’ll know within seconds of hanging out with Amanda that she’s a great person to be around, I found proof in her living room: she has a Dwight Schrute bobblehead!  How awesome is that, right?!

Amanda and Matt’s wedding day started their day off with a first look — something I recommend everyone should do!  As we were preparing, Matt admitted to me that for the first time, he was nervous.  You couldn’t tell from his face at all!  I did remind him that he looks great, his bride-to-be looks amazing, and the wedding will be wonderful, and I’m sure he agreed…

and now for the big reveal…  Words really couldn’t express how tender this moment was, and I’m so thankful for the privilege to be able to capture it.  He was speechless… she was speechless… and as I write this, I’m speechless.  Really. Sweet. Moment.

After a few moments together, they were whisked away to begin the ceremony!

The day was a scorcher, so we stopped for some ice cream to cool off!

Philip lived in Vancouver most of his life until he went off to school and eventually pastored a church in Florida.  Obviously, Vancouver is a special part of Philip’s life, and consequently, is also a special part of Kristine’s life.  Granville Island, Kristine related to me, is an emotional location because it is the one place they always go to when they come visit here.  Since they’re heading to Indonesia, visits to Granville Island will probably not be as frequent as they’d like it to be, so I hope these photos will help you remember this place a little better!

As we passed by a scooter on our stroll, Philip mentioned that, in Indonesia, he’s seen entire families ride a little scooter like this one below.  How they manage to fit more than two people on that little thing is beyond me!  I wasn’t about to ask them to demonstrate for me, but I had to get a photo with them around one!  Sorry, Philip, it’s not a Ducati, but maybe your daily driver?

They are such a sweet, loving family, and it shows!  There was a lot of hugging going on during the shoot, and I like that!

Of course, a shoot for me wouldn’t be complete until I’ve whisked Philip & Kristine away for a quiet moment together.
